I. Introduction
I should say, it was fun writing drivers for such nice product. I hope MikMod
becomes the best mod playing engine ever! (it does have some problems, but then
again, nothing is perfect :-)
II. Frequently Asked Question
What is MacMikMod?
MacMikMod is a Macintosh version of MikMod, well known mod player written by
Jean-Paul Mikkers (mikmak@stack.urc.tue.nl). I only wrote sound drivers for it,
though, I am developing my own tracker engine, which should be as cool!
Who am I?
I am a student at the University of Utah majoring in Computer Engineering.
Interested in DSP, music synthesis, real-time graphics, and network applications.
The sound is coming out choppy, why?
Your computer is probably too slow to do real-time mixing at 44kHz rate,
you should lower the mixing rate to 22kHz.
What formats does MikMod read?
S3M - Scream Tracker 3.x/STM - Scream Tracker 2.x/MTM - MultiTracker
XM - FastTracker II/ULT - UltraTracker/MOD - ProTracker
Where to find me?
1. Mail me to: Demos <demos@xmission.com> or <boldyrev@eng.utah.edu>
2. You can find me in EMCB quite often. I am taking CS361/CS354 series this year.
How does it work?
MacMikMod, just like any other mod player deals w/ samples. First, the sample (instrument)
is being transposed to the appropriate frequency according to the note's pitch, and then
mixed all together and played. As you can see it can be quite a task even for a PPC chip.
Why NO 68K version?
I have a reason to belive that Apple has made tiny little bug in routine descriptor
in DoubleBuffer callback function, due to that problem, I am not able to release
68K version.
Mod places, where?
There are many archives with mods, I suggest you check out StarTracker home
page or MMOD home page, I have a lot of pointers to other pages. Here's a list
